Newry and Mourne Ethical Minority Support Centre
Newry and Mourne Ethnic Minority Support Centre has been developed with the help of private sector, PSNI and EU funding to provide advice and support to migrant workers and other Ethnic Minority residents of the area. The project aim is to provide a broad based advice and support service to ethnic minority individuals, with the following specific elements:
ObjectivesDevelopment and operation of a “one stop shop” initial point of contact for minority ethnic individuals providing information, support and appropriate signposting in Newry and Mourne. Including collation of information on current service provision.
To develop and operate outreach “one stop shop” services to rural areas and workplaces.
To work with local community groups to increase understanding of ethnic diversity and assist the integration of migrant workers and other ethnic minority individuals into local communities.
To undertake research on the ethnic minority populations in the area to facilitate a needs assessment and preparation of a development plan.
To facilitate two-way communication between statutory and community groups and ethnic minority groups and individuals.
To encourage the participation of people from Ethnic Minority backgrounds in cultural and civic events in Newry and Mourne.
